1. About the list:

The "Wheelies" mailing list has been a reality since 10/24/97. It is an automated mailing list (majordomo), that distributes email messages to all of its members.

Since its creation, it has become a lively forum for chats between Wheelies fans, and yes, there are quite a few of us out there. Topics of discussion have ranged from what sort of plant Flora came from, to the propulsion systems for the Pride, to whether Oon is a robot or purely magical, attempts to plan fan get-togethers, and more. It has also been used by the varous Wheelies webmasters out there to keep fans informed about updates to their pages.

Want to join us? No problem, to subscribe is easy. (Note--to keep out spam and other such internet nonesense, the list will only accept messages from members. Messages from non-members will bounce.)

2. Subscribing to the List

To subscribe:

Send an email FROM THE ACCOUNT AT WHICH YOU WISH TO RECEIVE LIST MESSAGES to:

wheelies-request@wheelies.net

The body of the subscription request should contain the one-line command:

subscribe

SUBSCRIPTION TIPS:

1. The subscribe command must be in the body of the message.

2. Make sure you send the subscription request to wheelies-request@wheelies.net

3. If you have trouble with the simplified subscription procedure outlined above, you can send a message to "wheelies-request@wheelies.net" containing the line: subscribe your_email_address

Be sure to replace "your_email_address" with your actual email address.

Example: subscribe username@machine.edu

4. If you use the advanced subscription command described in (3) Make sure the email address which you use in the subscribe line matches the email address on the "From" line of messages which you send. "Receive" only aliases will not work with majordomo-- it will not recognize the address where your messages originate, so, though you would recieve other peoples' messages, any message you might try to send would bounce back.

3. Unsubscribing from the List:

To unsubscribe:

Send an email FROM THE ACCOUNT WHICH IS SUBSCRIBED TO THE LIST to:

wheelies-request@wheelies.net

The body of the message should contain the one-line command:

unsubscribe

4. Contacting the List Manager / Getting Help

If you're having any trouble subscribing or unsubscribing, or if you have any questions about the list. send me an email at: owner-wheelies@wheelies.net and I'll be happy to help you!

5. Sending Messages to the List

Once you are subscribed, you can send messages to everyone else in the group simply by mailing ONE copy to:

wheelies@wheelies.net

--majordomo does the rest!

Majordomo will automatically stick a "Reply-to: wheelies@wheelies.net" into the message headers, so that replies to list messages will automatically be distributed to everyone on the list. If you already have a "Relply-to:" set to something else, though, this automatic feature will not work properly. If you want replies to your "wheelies" messages to be distributed to everybody, make sure your email client does not insert "Reply to:" headers of its own.

Also, make sure your mailer is set to send plain text (see mailing list rules). Messages with attachments or html encoding will bounce.

6. Mailing list rules:

  • PICTURES, BINARY FILES, OR ANY OTHER LARGE EMAIL ATTACHMENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED. These can be very costly to some list members. If you wish to exchange binaries or doc files with another list member, please do so by private email.

  • TEXT MESSAGES ONLY. Do not send your message in html (web) format. This makes the message larger than it needs to be, and fills the text-based list archive with blocks of html coding. These days, many mail programs will automatically format your message as html, so you may have to go through your preferences and manually select text mode. If you need some help to figure out how to do this, see: Configuring Mail Clients to send Plain ASCII.

  • CHAIN LETTERS ARE NOT ALLOWED. This includes pyramid schemes and any messages that promise you some sort of cash award for every new address you can add to the message's headers.

  • The list is for discussion of "Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors" and related topics (such as fan art, fanfic, wheelies web pages, etc). Hurtling velvet Elvis paintings aside, I haven't had to enforce moderation on the list yet, and would prefer to keep it that way. Help make our list a friendly list. Please, no spamming or excessive swearing, and try to stay at least marginally on topic. Groundless, personal attacks and vulgar flames will be harshly dealt with, so be nice.

7. Wheelies List Message Archive:

Monthly archives of past list messages are available. This archive is for subscribers only. List members, If you'd like access to the archive, contact me at owner-wheelies@wheelies.net for a username and password.

8. List Member Roll Call

As the list membership has grown, so has the confusion as to who is who. By popular demand, and the help of folks who wanted to participate, there is now a "roll call" for the list--with some info on who goes with what nickname (we have 4 Jayce's!), where our various members reside, and other interesting tidbits.

GO TO THE ROLL CALL PAGE

The roll call is also for list members only. List members who would like access should contact me at: owner-wheelies@wheelies.net for a username and password.

See you online!
